Jackson High School is a comprehensive high school that offers students a strong college prep curriculum as well as outstanding career and technical education opportunities and the Jackson School for the Arts.
Jackson High School has received the highest rating of “Excellent” on the State of Ohio’s District Report Card for the 9th consecutive year. We are extremely proud of the efforts of our staff and students, as well as the support of our parents in helping us achieve this recognition.
On September 15, 2009 United States Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, announced that Jackson High School was one of 314 schools nationwide and 19 from the State of Ohio to be named as a 2009 National Blue Ribbon School. Each year the U.S. Department of Education has selected schools where students attain and maintain high academic goals. This is a tremendous honor for our staff, students, and the Jackson Community.
With an enrollment of over 1800 students, our goal is to provide each student with outstanding educational opportunities which will allow them to maximize their educational potential. Each year over 80% of our graduating students go on to pursue further educational opportunities in either a two-year or a four-year program. Jackson High School students have the opportunity to participate in many exceptional extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Jackson High School is a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association and the extremely competitive Federal League Athletic Association. We currently offer 28 different sports in which our young men and women can compete.
For the 2009-2010 school year, AP Psychology has been added to our AP course selections. We now have 15 AP courses which students can choose from. This year we will be completing the application process to allow us to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme to our students beginning with the 2010-2011 school year.
During the 2009-2010 school year we established a sister school relationship with Jiaozhou High School in Qinqdao, China. In December a small group of educators visited Jiaozhou High School and met with their administrators and students. During the summer a group of Jackson students went to China for three weeks and in July a group of students and teachers came to Jackson for a three week visit. We hope to further develop this relationship over the coming years.
